Olive Oil Commission of California Seeks New Members for Advisory Committee Representing Small Producers
The California Department of Food and Agriculture is looking for olive oil producers to serve on the Olive
Oil Commission of California’s Advisory Committee, which represents smaller producers exempt
from mandatory participation in the OOCC. The deadline to apply to be considered for a seat on this
committee is coming up quickly. If you are an individual who produces, or causes to be produced, olives
that are processed into less than 5,000 gallons of olive oil annually and are willing to participate in OOCC
meetings, we are urging you to apply.
When the OOCC was established in 2014, the industry wanted to be sure the interests of smaller
farmers and processors were considered because they may be impacted by actions taken by the OOCC
Board. Thus, an Advisory Committee composed of producers whose output is fewer than 5,000 gallons
of olive oil per year was established.
The terms for those serving on the original Advisory Committee appointed in 2014 have expired and
CDFA is accepting applications for new committee representatives. The application, due May 8th, is
posted here along with a letter that further explains the purpose of the Committee.
The Advisory Committee is chaired by Albert Katz, of Katz olive oil, Napa and Suisun Valley and this
chairman position was recently approved by CDFA to serve as a full, voting member of the OOCC Board.
We urge anyone interested in serving on this important committee to please get your application in
today.
